Hello! My name is Cheriss May

I’m a visual journalist and educator, who is passionate about photography and graphic design. Originally from Kansas City, MO., Howard University brought me to the DC area where I received my B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in Advertising and Electronic Studio. 

My career as a visual journalist has afforded me the opportunity to work for some of the top media companies, such as, The Washington Post and Gannett Co., Inc.; Lead staffs in Europe and Asia as an Assistant Managing Editor for The European-Pacific Stars & Stripes newspaper; Travel to Germany and South Africa and photograph people like Nancy Wilson, the Martin Luther King family and Barack Obama and John McCain. All of my opportunities have empowered me to see the world beyond my doorstep and develop a varied set of experiences that inspire me.

In 2006, I created Unified Soul (www.lovewhoiamstore.com), a line of positive t-shirts that celebrates and encourages diversity in individuals and communities through fashion, art and music.

I have over 15 years of experience in presentation design and print/online content management. I have extensive knowledge and experience in media publishing, pre-press and production in a daily deadline-intensive environment. I'm proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and other content management, photography and publishing software.

I've been a professional photographer for over 10 years, with a journalistic style. I have experience shooting everything from corporate events, live studio/TV shows, weddings, and portraits. What is Ndemay? Pronounced in/day/may, "Nde" is Swahili for God sent. I combined "Nde" with my last name, "May". The name serves as inspiration. I believe when you make a living doing something you are passionate about it's a God send. Ndemay reminds me everyday how truly blessed I am!
